Over the last few days kia‘i have been working to clear invasive species in front of Keawanui fishpond. There are several natural springs in the area that help create the brackish water in the pond. By uncovering these punawai, we bring greater health to the water and this subsistence resource. As we continue to rediscover the intricacies of traditional aquaculture practices, understanding the relationship between the land, the springs, and the ocean is key.
