Our latest experiment at Keawanui is with mulch varieties. We are using both mangrove charcoal and ogo with our kalo to see any differences in growth that may occur. Both mangrove and ogo are invasive species that negatively impacted the loko iʻa. As we remove these invasive species from the pond we want to be able to put them to use! Both make excellent mulch for growing our kalo varieties. We will see which one has the best results!
